Report Finds xAI’s Grok Chatbot Unsafe for Kids and Teens

A new risk assessment from Common Sense Media warns that xAI’s chatbot Grok poses serious risks to children and teenagers. The nonprofit found weak age verification, ineffective safety guardrails, and widespread exposure to sexual, violent, and inappropriate content — even when “Kids Mode” is enabled.

Researchers tested Grok across its app, website, and X integration using teen accounts and concluded it frequently fails to identify underage users. “Grok is among the worst we’ve seen,” said Common Sense Media’s head of AI assessments, citing a design that prioritizes engagement over child safety.
