Longtime Nintendo Producer Hideki Konno Retires After Nearly 40 Years
-

Nintendo veteran Hideki Konno, famed for his work on Mario Kart, Yoshi’s Island, and Luigi’s Mansion, has quietly retired from the company after nearly four decades. Konno, who joined Nintendo in 1986 as an assistant director on Super Mario Bros. 2 & 3, played a pivotal role in shaping some of the studio’s most beloved franchises.
His departure, confirmed via his personal Facebook page, comes just after fellow Nintendo legend Kensuke Tanabe retired. With both Konno and Tanabe stepping away, Nintendo is entering a new era, leaning on younger talents to carry forward its iconic franchises. Fans will remember Konno for creating countless memories across Mario Kart’s many entries and the cult-classic Luigi’s Mansion series.
Nintendo may be losing two legends, but their legacy will live on in the games and experiences they helped build.
