US Prosecutors Drop Case Against Former OpenSea Manager
-

US prosecutors have decided not to retry their wire fraud and money laundering case against a former OpenSea manager following a federal appeals court ruling that overturned his conviction. Prosecutors told a Manhattan federal court they entered into a one-month deferred prosecution agreement, after which the case will be dismissed.
Manhattan US Attorney Jay Clayton said the decision was based on the defendant having already served part of his sentence, including three months in prison, and his agreement not to contest the forfeiture of nearly 16 Ether allegedly tied to the case.
Clayton said deferring prosecution best served the public interest and avoided the need for a retrial.
