Vitalik Buterin Calls for Rethink of DAO Governance Models
-

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has called for a fundamental redesign of decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs), arguing that most have devolved into inefficient token-voting treasuries. According to Buterin, current DAO models fail to improve on traditional governance and are vulnerable to low participation and whale dominance.
He said DAOs should instead be purpose-built to manage specific functions such as oracles, onchain dispute resolution, insurance decisions, and long-term protocol stewardship. Buterin emphasized that different governance challenges require different structures, and highlighted privacy tools, limited AI assistance, and improved design as key to making DAOs more effective.
