Why AI Still Hasn’t Replaced White-Collar Jobs
-

Nearly two years after Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella predicted AI would replace knowledge work, lawyers, bankers, consultants and accountants are still very much employed. Despite massive advances in foundation models, most white-collar jobs remain largely unchanged.
New research from Mercor helps explain why. The company tested leading AI models on real-world tasks from consulting, investment banking and law — and found that every major model failed. Even the best systems struggled to answer more than 25% of professional-grade questions correctly, suggesting AI still lacks the depth and reliability required to automate complex knowledge work.
