OpenAI Faces Growing Pressure in the Enterprise AI Market
-

Despite launching ChatGPT Enterprise back in 2023—well ahead of rivals like Anthropic and Google—OpenAI is losing ground in the enterprise AI market. The company says its enterprise product has more than 5 million business users, including major brands like SoftBank, Target, and Lowe’s.
Yet adoption trends tell a different story. According to a December report from Menlo Ventures, OpenAI’s enterprise large language model usage market share has dropped sharply—from 50% in 2023 to 27% by the end of 2025. Meanwhile, competitors are gaining momentum, raising concerns internally about OpenAI’s long-term position with business customers.
Leadership changes like Zoph’s new role suggest OpenAI sees enterprise traction as a strategic priority rather than a side business.
