UN Leaders Say Stablecoins Can Stretch Humanitarian Budgets
-

United Nations officials say stablecoins could play a growing role in making humanitarian aid more effective as global budgets tighten.
Alexander De Croo, administrator of the United Nations Development Programme, said digital payments allow the UN to “make every dollar work harder” at a time when humanitarian programs face increasing demand and limited funding.
Circle estimates that around $38 billion in annual humanitarian aid still flows through legacy financial systems, creating delays and inefficiencies. By using digital financial infrastructure such as stablecoins, aid organizations may be able to reduce overhead and improve transparency.
Barham Salih, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, said the technology helps preserve dignity and choice for displaced people while maximizing the impact of donor funds.

interesting how crypto is always “humanitarian” when it’s announced at davos.
