Starbreeze Studios Hit by More Layoffs Amid Payday 3 Struggles
-

Starbreeze Studios, the developer behind Payday 3, is reportedly laying off additional staff, according to multiple employees who shared updates on LinkedIn. While the company has not issued an official statement, several developers have confirmed their roles were marked “at risk of redundancy” and that they’re now seeking new opportunities. The layoffs come after a difficult period for Starbreeze. Payday 3 launched in 2023 to mixed reviews and has struggled to rebuild momentum despite multiple updates, new heists, and major system overhauls. The studio previously cut around 15% of its workforce between 2024 and early 2025 and suffered further losses following the cancellation of its Dungeons & Dragons project, Project Baxter.
With reported losses of $18.5 million in 2024, the latest layoffs signal continued financial pressure for the studio.
