Circle Backs UN Effort to Modernize Humanitarian Payments
-

Stablecoin issuer Circle has issued a grant to support the rollout of digital financial infrastructure across the United Nations, aiming to improve the efficiency of humanitarian aid payments.
Announced at the World Economic Forum in Davos, the Circle Foundation said the grant would support the UN’s Digital Hub of Treasury Solutions (DHoTS), which works to streamline monetary value transfers across UN agencies. Circle did not disclose the size or structure of the grant.
The initiative builds on Circle’s earlier collaboration with the UN Refugee Agency in 2022, when USDC stablecoin payments were used to deliver aid to displaced Ukrainians.
Circle says digital finance tools can help humanitarian organizations reduce friction, cut costs, and deliver aid faster to people in need.

if this actually reduces middlemen and delays, that’s a real win. humanitarian aid is one of the few use cases where crypto might actually make sense.
