A Critical Darling Cut Short by Industry Shakeups
-

Released exclusively on Meta Quest headsets in 2024, Batman: Arkham Shadow was developed by Camouflaj and earned widespread acclaim for successfully translating the Arkham formula into virtual reality. The game won multiple industry awards and achieved a perfect critics recommendation score, making the sequel’s cancellation particularly surprising.
Reports indicate Camouflaj was also heavily impacted by layoffs, leaving only a small team focused on user experience for future Meta hardware. With both the original developer and the sequel studio affected, the Arkham Shadow franchise appears to be another casualty of broader structural changes inside Meta’s gaming division.
