X Cracks Down on Incentivized Posting, Ending the InfoFi Model
-

X has revoked API access for applications that reward users for posting and engagement, effectively shutting down so-called “InfoFi” crypto projects. According to X product lead Nikita Bier, the incentive model fueled massive amounts of AI-generated spam and low-quality replies, as bots were paid to flood the platform with engagement.
The policy change aims to restore content quality by removing financial incentives tied directly to posting volume. Once automated accounts stop earning rewards, X expects spam to drop quickly—marking a clear shift away from tokenized attention and toward stricter platform-controlled engagement rules.
