US Lawmakers Question SEC’s Retreat on Crypto Enforcement
-

In the United States, crypto regulation is also under scrutiny as three Democratic lawmakers pressed U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Chair Paul Atkins over the agency’s dismissal and pause of multiple crypto enforcement actions. Representatives Maxine Waters, Brad Sherman, and Sean Casten questioned whether the SEC is enforcing securities laws selectively.
The lawmakers specifically urged the SEC to revisit its case against Justin Sun, raising concerns about political influence following Sun’s token purchases tied to entities linked to President Donald Trump. With the SEC now lacking Democratic commissioners and similar imbalance at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, critics warn that weakened oversight could erode investor confidence and undermine market integrity.
