Impersonation Scams Exploded in 2025
-

Crypto-related impersonation scams surged dramatically last year, with cases rising 1,400% year over year, according to a new report from Chainalysis. These scams typically involve fraudsters posing as trusted individuals or organizations to trick victims into handing over crypto, login credentials, or wallet access.
Chainalysis noted that impersonation is rarely used alone. Instead, scammers increasingly blend it with other techniques like social engineering, fake investment opportunities, and wallet-draining tactics—making scams harder to spot and far more effective.
