Motional found itself at a crossroads nearly two years ago. After missing a robotaxi launch deadline, losing Aptiv as a backer, and undergoing deep layoffs that cut its workforce by more than half, the company faced a stark choice: evolve or fade away.

Backed by an additional $1 billion investment from Hyundai Motor Group, Motional paused its commercial ambitions and rebooted its strategy.
