Grok’s Deepfake Crisis Exposes the Dark Side of Generative AI
-

Over the past two weeks, X has been inundated with AI-generated, non-consensual nude images created using Grok. The images have targeted a wide range of women — from models and actresses to journalists, crime victims, and even political figures — raising serious concerns about abuse at scale.
Research from Copyleaks shows how quickly the problem spiraled. While early estimates suggested one image per minute, later sampling found as many as 6,700 images per hour being posted during a 24-hour period. The incident has become a stark demonstration of how powerful image-generation tools, when released without guardrails, can enable mass harm almost instantly.
