Craftable Name Tags and What Comes Next
-

With more mobs likely filling player worlds, Mojang is also introducing a quality-of-life improvement: craftable name tags. Instead of relying on loot, fishing, or villagers, players will be able to craft name tags using paper and any metal nugget—making it easier to keep track of pets and farm animals.
While no official release date has been announced, players can already test these features in Java snapshots and Bedrock beta previews. Based on last year’s cadence, the update could arrive as early as March, but Mojang is encouraging community feedback before finalizing the game drop—ensuring Minecraft’s next chapter starts 2026 on a charming note.
