Coinbase Stays Engaged as Argentina Reconsiders Crypto Rules
-

Despite scaling back peso-based services, Coinbase plans to maintain an active presence in Argentina through Base, its Ethereum layer-2 network. The company will continue working with local partners, including Ripio, on Base-related initiatives, signaling a longer-term strategy beyond retail fiat access.
At the same time, Argentina’s regulatory stance may be shifting. The Banco Central de la República Argentina is reportedly exploring rules that would allow traditional banks to trade crypto directly—a sharp reversal from its 2022 ban. If approved, the changes could reshape how global exchanges like Coinbase re-enter the local financial system.
