Maxine Waters Calls for Oversight Hearing on SEC’s Crypto Shift

US Representative Maxine Waters has formally called for a congressional hearing with Securities and Exchange Commission Chair Paul Atkins, citing concerns over what she describes as “questionable policy changes” at the agency. In a letter to House Financial Services Committee Chair French Hill, Waters argued that lawmakers have failed to adequately oversee the SEC since Atkins took office in April.

She noted that former Chair Gary Gensler testified twice in his first year, while Atkins has yet to appear before the committee — despite major shifts in crypto enforcement and regulation under the current administration.
