Insider Questions Emerge After Trust Wallet Extension Exploit
-

New details are raising questions about the nature of Trust Wallet’s browser extension hack, which resulted in $7 million in losses and potential exposure of user data. Cybersecurity firm SlowMist reported that the malicious extension exported personal information and appeared to have been prepared weeks in advance.
SlowMist co-founder Yu Xiam noted that the attacker demonstrated deep familiarity with the source code, fueling speculation about possible insider access. Onchain investigator ZachXBT previously estimated that hundreds of users were affected.
While Trust Wallet has not confirmed insider involvement, CEO Eowyn Chen said a broader forensic investigation is underway. The company says it has developed strong working hypotheses for some cases but is continuing to finalize data before making further disclosures.
