Apple confirmed Monday that John Giannandrea, its AI chief since 2018, is stepping down and will remain only as an adviser through spring.
His replacement: Amar Subramanya, a seasoned Microsoft executive and former Google veteran who recently led engineering for the Gemini Assistant.

The timing isn’t surprising. Apple Intelligence has stumbled since launch — delivering buggy, inaccurate summaries and a delayed Siri overhaul that triggered lawsuits from iPhone 16 buyers.
Bloomberg’s investigation earlier this year exposed internal dysfunction, weak cross-team communication, budget conflicts, and a talent exodus to rivals.
