Scammers Exploit Australia’s Official Cybercrime Portal
-

Australian authorities have sounded the alarm after uncovering a sophisticated crypto scam where criminals misuse the ReportCyber system to impersonate police.
Fraudsters file fake reports using stolen personal details, obtain a legitimate reference number, then call victims pretending to be AFP investigators — claiming their crypto wallets are “at risk.”They then pressure victims to transfer funds or reveal wallet access.
AFP reminder: Real police will never ask for seed phrases, wallet access, or transfers. If you receive a call about a ReportCyber complaint you didn’t file, hang up immediately and verify via 1300 CYBER1 or Cyber.gov.au.
