Small Setups, Big Wins: Is Solo Bitcoin Mining Making a Comeback?
-
While Bitcoin’s network hashrate sits near record highs, some solo miners are defying all odds—snagging full block rewards worth hundreds of thousands of dollars with small, efficient setups.
Just last week, a solo miner using the Solo CK pool clinched block 907,283 and walked away with 3.125 BTC (about $372K), plus another $3,400 in fees. Not bad for flying solo in a world dominated by mega mining pools.
And that’s not a one-off story—other solo miners have scored full rewards earlier this year, even with relatively modest gear.
The Odds Are Long—But Not Impossible
With Bitcoin’s hashrate now at 902 EH/s, competition is brutal. A solo miner with 1 PH/s (1,000 TH/s) has just a 1 in 650,000 shot at solving a block every 10 minutes.
So why do they even try?
According to Samuel Li, CTO of ASICKey, “It’s not just luck—it’s efficiency.” New-gen ASICs are changing the game by squeezing out big performance with minimal energy use.
Take ASICKey’s KEYMINER A1, for instance:
650W draw 1,100 TH/s Up to $1,200/month mining BTC Or up to $3,800/month mining DASH
Their KEYMINER PRO? That beast pumps out 5,800 TH/s at 2,800W, with up to $6,300/month in revenue (market conditions depending, of course).
Why Go Solo?
Solo mining isn’t about consistency—it’s about taking the jackpot shot. The full 6.25 BTC reward (including fees) is still a powerful motivator. For some, it’s also about ideology: decentralization, independence, and staying out of mega pools.
And yes, there’s been a small but visible resurgence in solo mining. It’s a mix of:
Big reward dreams A belief in Bitcoin’s decentralized future Access to clean energy and efficient ASICs
Power to the Few?
Today’s mining landscape is still heavily pooled:
Foundry USA: 29.3% of network hashrate AntPool: 16.2% ViaBTC and F2Pool: Over 23% combined
If any one pool—or cartel—crosses 50%, it opens the door to a theoretical 51% attack. That’s why more solo miners matter.
🧵 Bottom LineSolo Bitcoin mining is still a lottery, but with smarter gear and leaner setups, small players are cashing in again. And whether they’re in it for the money, the mission, or both—they’re keeping the Bitcoin dream of permissionless mining very much alive.
You won’t hear them coming.
But when they win…
It’s loud.Would you roll the dice with your own solo rig?
