OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announced that ChatGPT will soon allow erotic conversations for verified adult users, part of its new “treat adult users like adults” principle.

Altman said restrictions were originally tight to mitigate mental health risks but claimed OpenAI has “been able to mitigate the serious issues” and will loosen safeguards in December.

The move comes after concerns over vulnerable users forming unhealthy relationships with AI. Altman admitted some users found ChatGPT “less useful/enjoyable” under strict limits.

OpenAI will rely on its age-prediction system and government ID checks to enforce adult-only access.
