Switzerland’s gambling regulator Gespa is assessing whether FIFA’s new “Right-to-Buy” (RTB) tokens — NFT-based ticket purchase rights for the 2026 World Cup — fall under gambling regulations, Bloomberg reported.

No wrongdoing has been alleged, but Gespa is reviewing whether the tokens, which can be bought, sold, and traded on FIFA’s NFT marketplace, resemble gambling products or conditional purchase rights.

RTB tokens allow fans to reserve the right to buy match tickets at face value if specific conditions, such as their team qualifying, are met. FIFA says the system aims to manage demand for high-stakes matches and improve ticket fairness.

Not surprising, regulators always move fast when big names get involved.
