Rivian Redesigns R2 SUV Door Handles After Safety Concerns
-

Electric automaker Rivian is changing the door handle design of its upcoming R2 SUV following feedback from employees and customers about safety risks. The R2 will now have manual door releases placed closer to the electric handles and in a “more clearly visible” spot. The change comes amid scrutiny of electronic latches across the auto industry.
Tesla has faced complaints and an NHTSA investigation after passengers got stuck due to hidden manual releases. Ford even recalled its Mustang Mach-E earlier this year over latch malfunctions. Rivian says its update will improve emergency access without compromising its sleek design.
