Amazon Division Now Requires Employees to Show How They Use AI to Get Promoted
-
This policy doesn’t apply company-wide — yet.
Jamie Siminoff, the founder of smart doorbell company Ring, who returned to Amazon as a Vice President in April 2025, has introduced a new requirement:
Any promotion request must now include an explanation of how the employee is using AI in their work.
According to Business Insider, this rule applies to Amazon’s RBKS division — which includes Ring, Blink security cameras, the Key delivery service, and the Sidewalk network.
🧠 The goal, Siminoff says, is to encourage innovation and strengthen a culture of speed and efficiency.
An Amazon spokesperson clarified that the new policy is currently limited to RBKS employees, and not the entire company.
What the Policy Looks At:
How employees are using AI to improve customer experience or internal workflows
Specific AI projects they’ve contributed to
Clear outcomes or measurable results
How managers use AI tools to “do more with less” — without expanding or even reducing team size
