The U.S. Department of Energy is reportedly planning to cut more than $500 million in clean-energy grants, potentially hitting EV startups and major automakers like Ford, GM, Stellantis, and Daimler Trucks, according to TechCrunch.

These cuts follow an earlier $7.5 billion rollback under the Trump administration’s budget plan, targeting programs from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

Among the biggest losses: Brimstone’s $189M low-carbon materials plant and Anovion’s synthetic graphite factory for EV batteries.

Analysts warn the move could stall U.S. EV manufacturing and climate tech innovation, slowing progress toward domestic clean-energy goals.

If DOE funding gets cut, small EV startups will be the first to suffer. Innovation depends heavily on these grants and subsidies, especially for battery tech development.

This move could slow down EV growth across the US. Without support, even established automakers may rethink expansion plans in clean energy vehicles.
