Anker’s Eufy Pays Users to Stage Theft Videos for AI Training
-

Chinese electronics maker Anker is paying owners of its Eufy security cameras for videos of package or car theft — even staged ones — to train its AI detection systems.
“You can even create events by pretending to be a thief,” the company wrote on its site, noting one staged car door theft could earn up to $80.
The program highlights how companies are willing to pay for user-generated data to train AI. But it also raises privacy and security risks — as shown by viral calling app Neon, which recently went offline after a flaw let users access other people’s data.
