Former U.S. President Donald Trump has announced plans to introduce import tariffs ranging from 10% to 15% on goods from approximately 150 countries — mostly smaller economies with limited trade volume with the United States, according to a report by Bloomberg.
Notifications to Be Sent
Affected countries will receive official notifications specifying the new tariff rates. These tariffs are set to take effect on August 1, 2025. The final tariff rate has not yet been confirmed but is expected to fall within the 10–15% range. Trump noted that countries offering “favorable terms” may be able to negotiate separate bilateral trade agreements with the U.S.
Background Timeline
In February 2025, Trump signed an executive order imposing tariffs on imports from Mexico, Canada, and China. In April, tariffs were extended to goods from 185 countries and territories, with rates varying based on the country. Initially, affected trade partners were given a three-month window to negotiate mutually beneficial agreements with the U.S. This deadline, originally set for July 9, 2025, was later extended to August 1 by Trump. On July 7, 14 countries were officially notified of new tariffs ranging from 25% to 40% on their exports to the U.S. On July 12, the U.S. announced 30% tariffs on goods from the EU and Mexico.
