Rumor: Apple to Launch MacBook with Touchscreen in 2026
-

Despite publicly opposing the idea multiple times, Apple may release a MacBook with a touchscreen. The first report of a potential touchscreen MacBook came from supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who also said Apple devices will switch to OLED displays. ArsTechnica notes that Kuo often “has information about testing and production” of the company’s new products.
According to the insider, mass production of the next-generation MacBook could begin in the second half of 2026. Apple’s interest in a touchscreen MacBook reportedly stems from “long-term observation of iPad user behavior.”
Apple has been testing touchscreen MacBook prototypes since 2008, 9to5Mac reports, but repeatedly abandoned the idea. Steve Jobs, Jony Ive, and Tim Cook at various times stated that Apple would not release a Mac with a touchscreen.
The publication also emphasizes the “plausibility” of Kuo’s information, noting that the younger generation has become accustomed to Windows laptops with touchscreens, and the iPadOS 26 update has blurred the line between MacBook and iPad — “Apple recognized that both types of input can be useful on a single device.”
