ECB’s DLT Settlement System Pontes Set for 2026 Launch
-

As part of its new Appia roadmap, the European Central Bank plans to launch Pontes in the third quarter of 2026. The platform will connect distributed ledger technology networks with the Eurosystem’s TARGET Services, which power euro-denominated payments and securities settlement across the region.
Alongside the announcement, the ECB opened a public consultation inviting banks, fintech firms, and other stakeholders to contribute feedback and proposals for the initiative. The roadmap is part of Europe’s broader push toward digital finance and comes as the ECB also continues development of the digital euro, with pilot testing expected to begin in 2027.
