Experts Launch “Pro-Human Declaration” to Guide the Future of AI
-

A broad coalition of scientists, policymakers, and public figures has released the Pro-Human Declaration, a framework outlining what responsible artificial intelligence development should look like. The initiative was organized by Max Tegmark, a physicist and AI researcher at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, who says the goal is to create guardrails for AI systems while governments continue to debate regulations. The declaration argues humanity is at a turning point. One path leads to AI replacing humans in work and decision-making, concentrating power in the hands of large institutions. The other path focuses on AI as a tool to expand human capabilities. The document proposes five guiding principles: keeping humans in control, preventing power concentration, protecting the human experience, safeguarding individual freedom, and making AI companies legally accountable for their technologies.
