Critics Question Whether Grammarly’s “Expert Review” Is Truly Expert
-

The “Expert Review” tool introduced by Grammarly aims to improve writing by presenting suggestions inspired by well-known thinkers and journalists. Users might see guidance framed as advice similar to commentary styles from figures like Kara Swisher, Casey Newton, or AI researcher Timnit Gebru.
However, critics argue that the feature may be misleading because none of these experts are actually reviewing the text. Historian C. E. Aubin told Wired that the system should not be described as an expert review at all, since no real experts are involved in producing the feedback, raising broader questions about how AI tools frame authority and credibility.
