Taiwan Commits $250B to Power U.S. Chip Manufacturing
-

Taiwan has agreed to make a massive $250 billion direct investment into U.S. semiconductor manufacturing as part of a new trade deal announced by the U.S. Department of Commerce. The agreement, reached under the Trump administration, aims to strengthen domestic chip production across semiconductors, energy, and AI-related innovation—areas seen as critical to economic competitiveness and national security.
In addition to direct investments, Taiwanese semiconductor and technology firms will provide up to $250 billion in credit guarantees to support further U.S.-based expansion. While the timeline for these investments has not been specified, the deal reflects Washington’s urgency to reduce reliance on foreign chip supply chains, especially as the U.S. currently produces only about 10% of the world’s semiconductors.
