Digital Compliance Becomes Mandatory for All OSVČ
-

From January 1, 2026, Czech freelancers can no longer rely on paper forms or in-person submissions. All communication with health insurers and the social security system must now take place digitally. Paper filings sent by post or dropped off physically are no longer accepted and may result in penalties from authorities, including the Czech Social Security Administration.
To stay compliant, freelancers must activate a Data Box (Datová schránka), submit annual reports in XML format, and use official online portals such as those provided by ČSSZ and health insurers. This shift removes the safety net of last-minute paperwork and places greater responsibility on freelancers to maintain digital access year-round. Those who prepare early can avoid fines, while those who delay risk missing deadlines that can no longer be fixed with a physical visit.
