Higher Insurance Contributions Reshape Freelance Finances
-

One of the biggest financial shocks for Czech freelancers in 2026 is the sharp rise in minimum social insurance contributions. Under the law currently in force, monthly minimums increase to CZK 5,720 due to a higher assessment base tied to average wages. Combined with health insurance of CZK 3,306, established freelancers now face total mandatory payments exceeding CZK 9,000 per month.
There is some uncertainty, however. The new government has promised to cap social insurance at CZK 5,005 through a legislative amendment that may be applied retroactively. Until this is finalized, tax advisers recommend paying the higher amount to remain compliant, with any overpayment later refunded or credited. New entrepreneurs still benefit from reduced rates during their first three years, offering some relief amid an otherwise tighter contribution environment.
