Google Pilots New Screen-Sharing Scam Alerts With Paytm, Navi, and Google Pay
-

Google has launched a new anti–screen-sharing fraud pilot in India with Navi, Paytm, and Google Pay to prevent scams where attackers trick users into sharing screens to steal PINs and one-time passwords. The alerts, first tested in the U.K., will be available on devices running Android 11 or later. The system warns users if screen sharing appears risky and includes a one-tap option to end the call and halt sharing. Google plans to expand the pilot to more financial apps and will support Indian-language alerts in the future.
Screen-sharing scams have surged alongside India’s rapid digital payments adoption. Fraudsters increasingly combine screen sharing with phone impersonation, causing significant financial losses. India’s Home Affairs Ministry estimates ₹70 billion in online-fraud losses in just five months this year.
