Universal Music Group and TikTok have officially renewed their licensing agreement, with both companies now committing to crack down on unauthorized AI-generated music across the platform. The agreement marks a major shift after tensions exploded in 2024, when UMG temporarily pulled its entire music catalog from TikTok over concerns surrounding copyright protection and fake AI music. Viral AI-generated songs imitating artists like Drake and The Weeknd had previously gained millions of streams online, raising alarms across the music industry about deepfake vocals and unauthorized content monetization.

Under the renewed partnership, TikTok and UMG say they will actively work together to remove unauthorized AI-generated tracks while strengthening systems that properly credit human artists and songwriters.
