The US dollar continues dominating stablecoins because it remains the world’s primary reserve currency and global settlement asset. Most international trade, commodities, banking systems, and financial markets still rely heavily on dollar liquidity, making USD backed stablecoins naturally more attractive for exchanges, institutions, and traders worldwide.

However, regulators and central banks in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East are increasingly trying to reduce dependence on dollar stablecoins by encouraging local currency alternatives. If these efforts succeed, the next phase of crypto adoption could involve multiple regional stablecoin ecosystems competing globally rather than one market dominated almost entirely by USD tokens.
