The 420% growth of the tokenized RWA market since early 2025 did not happen simply because the technology improved. It happened because the regulatory environment shifted enough for major traditional finance institutions to participate with confidence. Europe's MiCA framework provided structured rules that gave institutions clarity on how to engage with tokenized assets within a compliant framework. In the US, the SEC's January 2026 statement on tokenized securities established clearer distinctions between custodial and synthetic tokenized products, giving institutions a framework to understand what they are actually buying and what rights they hold. CoinGecko's research team noted that regulatory clarity enabled major TradFi players to enter the market in a way that hype-driven narratives from earlier years could never achieve.
The institutional names that have entered the tokenized RWA space since that clarity emerged are not speculative crypto funds. They are BlackRock, Fidelity, Franklin Templeton, Northern Trust, and Standard Chartered, each building or adopting tokenized fund infrastructure for real operational reasons.

BlackRock's BUIDL fund now provides on-chain access to short-term US government debt as a mainstream institutional product. Franklin Templeton's tokenized fund is being used as off-exchange collateral on Binance. Standard Chartered launched a framework enabling clients to use BlackRock's tokenized Treasurys as collateral on OKX. Each of these moves represents the technology moving from innovation to core market infrastructure, and the pace of that transition has accelerated significantly as the regulatory foundation has become clearer and more consistent across major jurisdictions.

Crypto in 2026 is BlackRock Treasurys as collateral on OKX and somehow both of these are the same asset class.
