A US Army soldier stationed at Fort Bragg has been charged by the Department of Justice for allegedly using classified military intelligence to profit on Polymarket prediction market bets. Gannon Ken Van Dyke, 38, allegedly turned $33,034 into approximately $410,000 across 13 separate bets, all of which took "YES" positions on Venezuela and Maduro-related contracts — including "Maduro out by January 31" and "US Forces in Venezuela by January 31." Van Dyke was reportedly involved in planning and executing Operation Absolute Resolve, the early morning January 3 mission that captured Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife in Caracas. He began placing bets on December 27, 2025, days before the operation went live, and the CFTC confirmed he purchased more than 436,000 "Yes" shares on the Maduro contract alone.

After pocketing the profits, Van Dyke allegedly attempted to cover his tracks — moving most of the proceeds to a foreign crypto vault, changing his exchange email to an alias, and requesting that Polymarket delete his account. He now faces five counts including three violations of the Commodity Exchange Act, wire fraud, and an unlawful monetary transaction, carrying potential maximum sentences of up to 20 years per fraud count. The CFTC has also filed a parallel civil complaint in the Southern District of New York, seeking restitution, trading bans, and civil penalties. FBI Assistant Director James Barnacle said Van Dyke "betrayed his fellow soldiers" by exploiting his military role for personal financial gain.
