While Bitcoin offers censorship resistance, most of Iran’s crypto activity is still done using Tether. The reason comes down to convenience, liquidity, and stability.

Stablecoins are easier to use for everyday transactions because they are pegged to the US dollar. However, they come with a major trade-off: issuers can freeze funds. In Iran’s case, billions have been moved, but hundreds of millions have also been blocked by authorities.

This creates a calculated risk. Governments may accept the possibility of frozen funds in exchange for faster and more practical transactions. It shows that in real-world usage, convenience often competes with full decentralization.
