Agentic AI payments are gaining attention as a future use case for stablecoins, with the potential to enable automated, machine-to-machine transactions without human involvement. By supporting microtransactions and programmable payments, stablecoins could unlock a new layer of digital commerce driven entirely by software agents.

However, adoption remains extremely limited for now. Early protocols like Coinbase’s x402 and Stripe-backed Tempo have recorded relatively small volumes, showing that while the infrastructure is emerging, real-world usage is still in its infancy. For now, AI payments are more of a long-term opportunity than a current growth driver.
