ENS just made a bold call: no Layer 2, stay on Ethereum L1.

The team canceled plans for its L2 “Namechain” and will ship ENSv2 directly on Ethereum. Why? Because Ethereum scaled faster than expected.

Gas costs for ENS registrations are down ~99%, the Fusaka upgrade doubled the gas limit to 60M, and core devs are already targeting 200M gas limits in 2026—before ZK upgrades even land.

The takeaway: Ethereum L1 is no longer the bottleneck many assumed it would be.
