Security researchers are warning Ethereum users to stay alert as address poisoning attacks accelerate. In January, researcher Andrey Sergeenkov reported a 170% surge in new wallet addresses during one week, linking the spike to attackers exploiting low transaction fees.

These attacks involve sending fractions of a cent in stablecoins from addresses designed to resemble legitimate ones, hoping users mistakenly copy and reuse them. Losses from address poisoning have already reached $740,000, Sergeenkov said.

Coin Metrics estimates that 250,000 to 350,000 Ethereum addresses daily are involved in dust activity. Despite this, the firm emphasized that most post-Fusaka growth remains organic, cautioning that dust activity should not be mistaken for genuine economic demand.
